Intro

Vancouver is a beautiful airport to transfer through. The views on approach were truly spectacular and once inside I encountered the friendliest border agents ever!

Epic mountain scenery surrounding Vancouver airport.

The airport itself is amazingly designed, resplendent in a sea of foliage. This does a lot to combat that usual industrial feel of airports, it feels more like a themepark than a transport hub and is also surprisingly quiet.

SPOILER ALERT: my effusive praise will end here.

The Lounge

Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge – Vancouver.

You’d think that Air Canada would consider Vancouver to be a major international hub and would give it a lounge fitting of its status. If you thought that you’d be wrong. Instead what you have is a lounge that looks like an office supply store from the mid 90s.

This lady handled all of the crudités with her bare hands before deciding on a favourite celery stick.

A decent selection of mid-range spirits and some freshly made lemon and mint water.

The one on the left is definitely pasta. The one on the right appears to be pasta, masquerading as grilled, circular chicken. I was not tempted to try either of the two.

Overcooked vegetables on the left, chicken with mushrooms on the right and in the middle… some form of clay or cement perhaps?

Conclusion

Visiting this lounge made me feel dirty. I got in, took some pictures and left. The airport terminal is immeasurably more pleasant than this deplorable den of despair.
