garuda lounge cgk

REVIEW – Garuda Indonesia : Business Class Lounge – Jakarta (CGK-T3)

This is one of the better Business Class lounges that I've visited. Great decor, a huge variety of local food, almost unlimited seating and even some unexpected extras like the movie theatre and reflexology area. The low quality of the drinks is the only real negative. This isn't a facility that wows like the Pier Business Class lounges in London and Hong Kong but it is certainly in the upper echelon of Business Class lounges globally. You could easily pass 3-4 hours here without being bored, which given Jakarta traffic is a real bonus, since only an unhinged maniac would cut it fine when departing from this airport...

About this site

Welcome to TheLuxuryTraveller.com, a thorough and extensive database of my travel reviews.

I fly over 100,000 miles per year in First and Business class and have reviewed the majority of the world's top onboard products for this blog. If you think that premium cabin travel is out of reach, read on to learn the tricks I use to fly around the world.

I also love visiting luxury hotels and resorts. I have reviewed a wide variety running the range from Park Hyatts and Ritz Carltons bookable with hotel points, right through to some of the world's most exclusive brands like Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental and Aman.

Finally, I am a firm believer in the fact that the purest expression of a culture is in its cuisine. I love to eat and have written at length about some of my favourite restaurants around the globe.

If you want to explore our planet in style, you've come to the right place

REVIEW: A Trip to Islay House with Stratajet

My day began with a chauffeur driven car to Biggin Hill Airport, slightly to the Southeast of Croydon. I was struck by how suburban my surroundings were on the drive there.

SECOND REVIEW – Etihad : First Class Apartments – Abu Dhabi AUH to London LHR (A380)

After an amazing multi course meal complete with vintage champagne and cocktails in the First Class lounge, we were ready to make the most of the bed on this flight. In a way, it seemed like a waste having such an amazing product and only using it to sleep... but on the other hand it was nearly 3am, we had experienced apartments before and I was really hoping to get a decent sleep before heading straight to the office a few hours later

REVIEW – Qantas : First Class – London LHR to Dubai (A380)

Qantas has one of my favourite First Class products in the world. I had been looking forward to stepping onto one of their A380s again for quite some time. Nothing beats that feeling of finally being welcomed aboard and taking your seat in a cabin you've been dreaming about for months on end.

REVIEW – Air Canada : Business Class – Vancouver to London LHR (B789)

The overall experience was absolutely one of the best that I've ever had in business class. I had no real expectations going into this and came away with a real fondness for AC. If this is the service standard that they are able to consistently deliver, they have to be one of the best airlines in North America.

air canada a320 first class

REVIEW – Air Canada : Business Class – Los Angeles to Vancouver (A320)

The seat was large and comfortable and featured both power and entertainment. The crew were polite, friendly and efficient (if a little lacking in oenoligical knowledge). The food was plentiful, healthy and delicious with a decent selection of drinks to accompany it.   If BA Club Europe was anything like this I wouldn't hesitate to pay the premium every time I fly!

swiss 777 throne seat

REVIEW – SWISS : Business Class – Zurich to Los Angeles LAX (B777)

There is a lot to like about SWISS business class but there are more than enough negatives to place this in the second tier of business class products behind the likes of Qatar, Etihad and Singapore Airlines. If the cabin was all throne seats...

swiss a320

REVIEW – SWISS : Business Class – Copenhagen to Zurich (A320)

SWISS shorthaul business is quite a bare bones affair. No jacket hanging, an economy seat, no centre table and no hot food. The service was very efficient and friendly but this was ultimately an economy experience in everything but name.

BA upper deck 64A

REVIEW – British Airways : Updated Club World Service – London to New York JFK (B747 Upper Deck)

The new bedding is a vast improvement as is the new tableware. The food is not much better than the old Do&Co catering on this route but then again LHR-JFK is BA's flagship service and has always received an extra level of care and attention. If BA can roll both the Do&Co and White Company partnerships successfully, fleetwide, they will go some way to undoing all of the harm that has been done to their reputation after the last three years of cost-cutting. Add in a new seat due in 2019 and then the only issue that remains is the poor quality of the lounges. BA don't exactly have an easy road ahead of them but for now at least, it appears that things are moving in the right direction.

Retreat Water Villa - Conrad Maldives review

REVIEW – Conrad Maldives : Retreat Water Villa

When you stay in a beach villa you have a base of operations from which to enjoy the resort, in the RWV the villa itself becomes your resort and totally comes to define your experience.

Conrad maldives beach

REVIEW – Conrad Maldives : Beach Villa (pre-renovation)

I really liked the bathroom, particularly the outdoor shower. The storage space for clothes and luggage was more than adequate and the villa was very conveniently located, close to the dive centre, gym and numerous restaurants.

Doha Airport Hotel

REVIEW – Oryx Airport Hotel, Doha

The service is excellent and the convenience factor is hard to overemphasise. Not only did we have a very cool view but within 5 minutes of checking out we found ourselves in the superlative Qatar Airways Al Mourjan lounge enjoying breakfast with friends!

Park Hyatt Siem Reap - Pool

REVIEW – Park Hyatt Siem Reap (Park Executive Suite)

The service here was better than expected and the hardware in the room was excellent, even if our suite was a little lacking in daylight. Overall I would definitely recommend the Park Hyatt Siem Reap and would gladly stay here again...

Jarvis Marcos - Conrad Bangkok Pool

REVIEW – Conrad Bangkok : King Executive Room

In a city where luxury can be had for so little, the Conrad would not be my first choice but viewed in isolation it is a very decent 5* hotel which can be had for under $150 most of the time...

radisson blu ARN

REVIEW – Radisson Blu Arlandia (Stockholm Airport)

This hotel is only five minutes from the airport, with extremely punctual and frequent complimentary transfers included. The design of the rooms and public spaces is cool and modern and the buzz here on a Friday night had the feel of a trendy city centre hotel.

Berlin 48 - REVIEW - Das Stue, Berlin (Embassy Room)

REVIEW – Das Stue, Berlin (Embassy Room)

The Embassy Room category at Das Stue can be quite varied, so it is worth being specific with your requests at the time of booking. I can imagine that this room is particularly popular in the warmer months, due to the absolutely enormous balcony.

sofitel berlin bar

REVIEW – Sofitel Kurfurstendamm, Berlin

For a quick overnight stay, this property is absolutely ideal. I would definitely not classify this as a luxury hotel however, the room decor leaves a lot to be desired and the harsh clinical feel of the white walls and bathroom tiles do not make you want to spend a great deal of time in your room.
