belmond nelson 36 1080x750 - Review - Belmond Mount Nelson, Cape Town

Review – Belmond Mount Nelson, Cape Town

My first encounter with a Belmond property was a fantastic experience on the whole. 'Old school' elegance, paired with friendly service and a great location.

Park Hyatt Maldives - Sunset Overwater Pool Villa

REVIEW – Park Hyatt Maldives

A lot of Maldivian resorts are like fast food: convenient, nicely packaged, initially satisfying but ultimately devoid of substance. The Park Hyatt is the antithesis to this.

REVIEW – Silvan Safari (Sabi Sands, SA)

My expectations were very high going into this and Silvan quite honestly smashed them. In terms of hard product, Silvan is in the very top tier of anything I've ever seen.

REVIEW – Bidvest Lounge – Jo’burg (JNB)

Even if you don't have Priority Pass the value for money here is pretty phenomenal. A surprisingly decent lounge.

Intercontinental JNB - Swimming Pool

REVIEW – Intercontinental JNB Airport

This is a hotel that is moments away from the airport. It ticks all of the items in my basics checklist and also has a full size gym and excellent restaurant. The room decor is a cut above most airport hotels globally, as is the service. Unless you have a layover of over 20 hours I can't imagine why you'd consider anywhere else in Joburg.

Amilla 88 - REVIEW - Amilla : Sunset Water Pool Villa

REVIEW – Amilla : Sunset Water Pool Villa

It's safe to say that this stay absolutely blew away all of my expectations. Amilla is a resort that delivered not just on the things that I thought I wanted it fulfilled knew needs that I didn't even know I had. The food was comfortably amongst the best we've ever encountered in the Maldives. The bed was also the biggest and the snorkelling the best I've ever encountered. The variety of accommodation options is fantastic and the combination of beach, treetop, bubble and overwater could keep you entertained for weeks.

Champlagnes – TG F, OZ J & F and NH F – Sofitel, Hyatt, Conrad, Hilton

After a couple of months of reading the Trip Reports forum on FlyerTalk.com, I slowly became aware that an itinerary involving multiple flights in international First Class, was no longer a lottery winning dream. This could actually be done. Not only that but with judicious routing and planning it could be done cheaply and awesomely, maximising all the little extras that make each airline unique.

TG F caviar - REVIEW - Thai Airways : First Class - London to Bangkok (B747)

REVIEW – Thai Airways : First Class – London to Bangkok (B747)

One of the big advantages to the old F cabin, is the amount you can see during take-off and landing. When we finished taxiing and the engines revved up for take-off, the feeling was exhilarating. Seeing the world rushing past, through 15 or more windows, gave me the impression that I myself was flying. As opposed to the usual feeling of just being along for the ride, in a metal tube. Shortly after the seat belt signs were turned off, one of the 2 female FAs came over with menus

DSC 0437 - REVIEW - Sofitel So Bangkok (Water Room)

REVIEW – Sofitel So Bangkok (Water Room)

Overall this was one of my best ever hotel stays. The staff were a huge part of this. Despite this being a 5* hotel, the service managed to be proactive and friendly without any stuffiness or excess formality at all. The most formal people were those behind desks at reception downstairs and in the main lobby, even they would always grin and greet you with a a wai whenever you walked past.

spires thailand - Bangkok Sights

Bangkok Sights

Believe it or not, I actually managed to see a few cultural sights (and W.T.F.s) in addition to the numerous hotels, planes and airport lounges. Hopefully you can all get some ideas for your trips to Bangkok Bangkok, and to a certain extent all of Thailand, seems to be interminably […]
