W Mexico City - Bedroom

REVIEW – W Mexico City

W hotels are definitely not my style. I'm more into minimalism and clean lines. I prefer luxury hotels to feel like luxury hotels (and for nightclubs to feel like nightclubs). Having said that, I really enjoyed this stay overall. The food was excellent, with breakfast in particular feeling like a genuine local hotspot.

Emirates A380 Business Class - Seat 11K a 'true window' seat

REVIEW – Emirates : Business Class – A380 – Johannesburg (JNB) to Dubai (DXB)

Emirates offers flat beds with all-aisle access, in Business Class on the A380. In 2008 this was something special, a hallmark of quality that truly made Emirates stand out.  In the modern era though, this is the bare minimum.

REVIEW – Alila Fort Bishangarh (Jaipur, India)

Our stay at Alila Fort Bishangarh exceeded expectations. Alila properties worldwide are remarkably diverse in terms of room hardware and physical setting. However, the chain is clearly unified by a service ethos and focus on quality that transcends any single property.

Emirates Lounge JNB - Dining area

REVIEW – Emirates Lounge – Joburg (JNB)

It is a lounge that succeeds in being marginally more pleasant than the gate area but otherwise there's not much to recommend here...

REVIEW – Amanbagh (Rambagh, India)

After experiencing some two absolutely remarkable stays at Amanoi and Aman Sveti Stefan, I was very excited to try my third ever Aman hotel. This was the stay that I had been planning our entire India trip around.

Oberoi Amarvilas - swimming pool

REVIEW – Oberoi Amarvilas (Taj Mahal)

Amarvilas is a palatial hotel with an enviable location, moments away from the Taj Mahal. Indeed every room enjoys a view of India's most famous landmark...

Oberoi Delhi - 360° bar

REVIEW – Oberoi New Delhi

The Oberoi New Delhi is a property which we almost stumbled onto accidentally but ended up loving. The room hardware and public spaces are thoroughly modern and service is as good as any that I have encountered in any city hotel.

Lufthansa A380 First Class cabin

REVIEW – Lufthansa : First Class – A380 – Frankfurt (FRA) to Delhi (DEL)

After a fantastic few hours spent enjoying the restaurant quality food and drink at the private First Class Terminal, we were guided through a private border post and had our bags loaded onto our Porsche transfer vehicle.

Champlagnes – TG F, OZ J & F and NH F – Sofitel, Hyatt, Conrad, Hilton

After a couple of months of reading the Trip Reports forum on FlyerTalk.com, I slowly became aware that an itinerary involving multiple flights in international First Class, was no longer a lottery winning dream. This could actually be done. Not only that but with judicious routing and planning it could be done cheaply and awesomely, maximising all the little extras that make each airline unique.

TG F caviar - REVIEW - Thai Airways : First Class - London to Bangkok (B747)

REVIEW – Thai Airways : First Class – London to Bangkok (B747)

One of the big advantages to the old F cabin, is the amount you can see during take-off and landing. When we finished taxiing and the engines revved up for take-off, the feeling was exhilarating. Seeing the world rushing past, through 15 or more windows, gave me the impression that I myself was flying. As opposed to the usual feeling of just being along for the ride, in a metal tube. Shortly after the seat belt signs were turned off, one of the 2 female FAs came over with menus

DSC 0437 - REVIEW - Sofitel So Bangkok

REVIEW – Sofitel So Bangkok

Overall this was one of my best ever hotel stays. The staff were a huge part of this. Despite this being a 5* hotel, the service managed to be proactive and friendly without any stuffiness or excess formality at all. The most formal people were those behind desks at reception downstairs and in the main lobby, even they would always grin and greet you with a a wai whenever you walked past.

Bangkok Sights

Believe it or not, I actually managed to see a few cultural sights (and W.T.F.s) in addition to the numerous hotels, planes and airport lounges. Hopefully you can all get some ideas for your trips to Bangkok Bangkok, and to a certain extent all of Thailand, seems to be interminably […]
