It's been a while since any hotel I stayed at hit every single one of the basics on my checklist and that alone should tell you something.
The Waldorf Astoria DIFC is a hotel that offers a hell of a lot in a market which is arguably rather saturated already. The decor makes it a real standout amongst DIFC properties and the location makes it an ideal base of operations for a visit to Dubai...
To be able to fly at all right now is a real privilege in the current era and BA's Club Suites present you with just about the most socially distanced product you could hope for in Business Class. If you're hungry, eat before; if you're thirsty, you'll be taken care of. Right now this is the new normal and for the time being I'm ok with it...
A number of my friends happened to be gathering on my birthday weekend in Dubai. Flights were cheap, award availability was plentiful and Dubai's luxury hotels appeared to be experimenting in delivering a price as close to free as humanly possible...
I wrote about Qatar's insanely generous COVID rebooking policy back in May this year.
Qatar are now leading the pack by introducing a policy that covers travel all the way until December 2021!
The new policy isn't quite as generous as before and there are a couple of extra hoops to jump through but it still absolutely the most flexible rebooking policy of any airline right now.
I was a little sceptical about coming to the Amalfi coast. I figured that if I was ever going to enjoy a summer here it would be at a time when it was less crowded and hopefully less expensive. Neither of which turned out to be particularly true.
Overall we had a very enjoyable stay in NH Collection Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi and would highly recommend a stay here to anybody considering a visit to the Amalfi Coast.
The hotel doesn't work with influencers in the way that Le Sirenuse, Casa Angelina, Villa Franca do and as such people aren't really familiar with its expansive grounds, outdoor gym and clifftop infinity pool. I sincerely hope that this review goes some way towards remedying this.
Santa Maria Novella train station was almost unrecognisable when we entered. It honestly looks like the zombie apocalypse has hit and the military have taken over.
The station has been sectioned off with barriers and arrows have been placed on the ground to ensure that passengers only walk in one direction. There are armed police on regular patrol and temperature monitoring stations set up to scan every passenger that boards a train...
After a couple of months of reading the Trip Reports forum on FlyerTalk.com, I slowly became aware that an itinerary involving multiple flights in international First Class, was no longer a lottery winning dream. This could actually be done. Not only that but with judicious routing and planning it could be done cheaply and awesomely, maximising all the little extras that make each airline unique.
I spent about an hour in the lounge and was able to eat, drink, send a couple of emails and sort through all my papers and reservations for the rest of the trip. It was much nicer than waiting at the gate but really not worth turning up early for.
If I’d paid the big bucks for SQ suites, I would certainly view this lounge as a disappointment. Within Terminal 3 alone, there is a better Business Class lounge (The Virgin clubhouse).
If I’d paid the big bucks for SQ suites, I would certainly view this lounge as a disappointment. Within Terminal 3 alone, there is a better J lounge (the VS clubhouse).
One of the big advantages to the old F cabin, is the amount you can see during take-off and landing. When we finished taxiing and the engines revved up for take-off, the feeling was exhilarating. Seeing the world rushing past, through 15 or more windows, gave me the impression that I myself was flying. As opposed to the usual feeling of just being along for the ride, in a metal tube.
Shortly after the seat belt signs were turned off, one of the 2 female FAs came over with menus
The best I can say about the food component of the breakfast is that it was better than the abomination that was served to me on TG911 a few days earlier. Again, not worth coming to BKK early for.
Off the top of my head, I would take J lounge food in the NRT JL or NH lounges, the VS clubhouse in LHR and the QF J lounge in HKG, over this. Those are all great J lounges but a national carrier in it's home base shouldn't be losing to them in its F lounge.
