The Oberoi New Delhi is a property which we almost stumbled onto accidentally but ended up loving. The room hardware and public spaces are thoroughly modern and service is as good as any that I have encountered in any city hotel.
After a fantastic few hours spent enjoying the restaurant quality food and drink at the private First Class Terminal, we were guided through a private border post and had our bags loaded onto our Porsche transfer vehicle.
Superb room hardware and the game viewing was as private and wild as you could possibly hope for. For the majority of our time on the game drives, it felt like we were at one with nature, totally disconnected from other human beings and the outside world.
After a couple of months of reading the Trip Reports forum on FlyerTalk.com, I slowly became aware that an itinerary involving multiple flights in international First Class, was no longer a lottery winning dream. This could actually be done. Not only that but with judicious routing and planning it could be done cheaply and awesomely, maximising all the little extras that make each airline unique.
I spent about an hour in the lounge and was able to eat, drink, send a couple of emails and sort through all my papers and reservations for the rest of the trip. It was much nicer than waiting at the gate but really not worth turning up early for.
If I’d paid the big bucks for SQ suites, I would certainly view this lounge as a disappointment. Within Terminal 3 alone, there is a better Business Class lounge (The Virgin clubhouse).

One of the big advantages to the old F cabin, is the amount you can see during take-off and landing. When we finished taxiing and the engines revved up for take-off, the feeling was exhilarating. Seeing the world rushing past, through 15 or more windows, gave me the impression that I myself was flying. As opposed to the usual feeling of just being along for the ride, in a metal tube.

The best I can say about the food component of the breakfast is that it was better than the abomination that was served to me on TG911 a few days earlier. Again, not worth coming to BKK early for.
Off the top of my head, I would take J lounge food in the NRT JL or NH lounges, the VS clubhouse in LHR and the QF J lounge in HKG, over this. Those are all great J lounges but a national carrier in it's home base shouldn't be losing to them in its F lounge.
