REVIEW – Mandarin Oriental Barcelona

I don't think there's any doubting that this is the best hotel in Barcelona but the value proposition is a little hard to justify, particularly when rooms at the newly refurbished Intercontinental are 1/3 of the price or less.

REVIEW – Amanpuri (Phuket, Thailand)

Overall it is hard to deny that Amanpuri is the best resort in Phuket. This is manifestly clear. However the leap in price between Amanpuri and its very close peers means that the resort will continue to work to prove itself....a fact for which I am deeply thankful.

REVIEW – Hilton Cairns (Australia)

On the whole, the Hilton Cairns was hard not to like. The location is just so great, the feel so relaxed, the staff so welcoming, it makes you feel like you're a million miles away from the 'real world'. REVIEW – Conrad Tokyo (Executive Bay View Room)

Another fantastic stay in one of my favourite city hotels in the world. The Conrad is serene, modern and beautiful. The lounge takes the experience up another notch and really cements this hotel's standing in the top tier of luxury properties.

REVIEW – Conrad Tokyo

Overall, the stay was fantastic. The entire hotel feels like a modern art museum. The lobby bar is one of my favourite hotel bars in the world. In the interests of full disclosure though, I felt that Cerise was a little underwhelming.

REVIEW – Hilton Shinjuku (Tokyo)

The Conrad was fully booked for the second night in Tokyo, my final night of the trip. So, I stayed in the Hilton Shinjuku instead. This property is much more of a 'normal' hotel. The lobby is constantly thrumming with people. Tour buses and airport buses are perpetually filing through the driveway but in a way you feel more like you are in the heart of Tokyo. The Conrad is a wonderful sanctuary, away from it all. The Hilton Shinjuku is almost the exact opposite.
