Expectations can be an odd thing. Emirates First Class is an internationally renowned product, even outside of the frequent flyer community people are likely to have heard of the shower suites and the on board lounge bar (which I had no time to visit on this short flight).
This is a cabin which has a halo effect over the entire Emirates brand, meaning that people buy Economy seats on Emirates, on the basis of how good their First Class is...
This isn't the kind of place the you turn up early to experience, although outstation lounges very rarely are. The food is the only truly premium aspect of Emirates' Gatwick lounge offering.
What's strange is how easily some glaring errors could be fixed to radically transform the experience...
There are a lot of things to like about Constance Moofushi. The reef and lagoon are truly spectacular. If you're into diving, the Ari Atoll also has some of the very best dive sites on earth. The vegetation is lush and dense and the sand quality is fantastic too. This is not a resort which is lacking in natural charm.
Sometimes you really look forward to an experience and it lets you down. The weight of expectations just can't live up to the hype.

One of the big advantages to the old F cabin, is the amount you can see during take-off and landing. When we finished taxiing and the engines revved up for take-off, the feeling was exhilarating. Seeing the world rushing past, through 15 or more windows, gave me the impression that I myself was flying. As opposed to the usual feeling of just being along for the ride, in a metal tube.
Shortly after the seat belt signs were turned off, one of the 2 female FAs came over with menus
Overall this was one of my best ever hotel stays. The staff were a huge part of this. Despite this being a 5* hotel, the service managed to be proactive and friendly without any stuffiness or excess formality at all. The most formal people were those behind desks at reception downstairs and in the main lobby, even they would always grin and greet you with a a wai whenever you walked past.
The best I can say about the food component of the breakfast is that it was better than the abomination that was served to me on TG911 a few days earlier. Again, not worth coming to BKK early for.
Off the top of my head, I would take J lounge food in the NRT JL or NH lounges, the VS clubhouse in LHR and the QF J lounge in HKG, over this. Those are all great J lounges but a national carrier in it's home base shouldn't be losing to them in its F lounge.
On arrival to the Peninsula’s grounds you get the feeling that you’re not in a regular city hotel. The fact that the hotel is set within grounds as opposed to being immediately visible from the street, really sets it apart in this city.
