Four Seasons Geneva really surprised me. I had been expecting a rather stuffy and old fashioned hotel, the antithesis to the sleek and modern Four Seasons Bangkok. Instead, I found a property with impeccably maintained historical features, married perfectly with modern touches like bedside USB ports, hammam style steam showers, rooftop sushi and indeed a very young and enthusiastic staff.

Intercontinental is a weird hotel brand. It is so inconsistent from one location to the next that it's impossible to pin down what exactly the brand stands for and what one can reasonably expect when selecting an Intercontinental hotel.

After a couple of months of reading the Trip Reports forum on FlyerTalk.com, I slowly became aware that an itinerary involving multiple flights in international First Class, was no longer a lottery winning dream. This could actually be done. Not only that but with judicious routing and planning it could be done cheaply and awesomely, maximising all the little extras that make each airline unique.

I had been looking forward to this stay for a while.
The pictures of the pool, with huge floor to ceiling windows, opening onto a snowy garden, looked fantastic.
All reports and reviews that I had read indicated that this would be a cut above the usual airport hotel experience.
