REVIEW – Conrad Tokyo : Two Bayview Suites & A Corner Bayview Suite

There's a reason why I've been back here over ten times. This hotel just ticks so many boxes. The location is fantastic: you can reach Tsukiji fish market on foot and eat some of the best sushi on earth (the restaurants are still open even though the wholesale market has since moved). There are numerous different JR and Tokyo Metro stations nearby, you are super close to Haneda airport and Ginza is a short walk away - great not only for high-end shopping but also some surprisingly affordable restaurants...

REVIEW – Park Hyatt Tokyo : Park Suite (NYE Stay)

It is probably not a hotel for the first time visitor to Tokyo given the walk to the station but for those of us looking for an oasis of tranquility, the relative inconvenience of taking a taxi at the beginning and end of each day is more than outweighed by the superb experience overall. The decor is not for everyone and neither is the formality of the service. Ordinarily I'm all about modern minimalism and a hands off but friendly approach but somehow this hotel just works. Coming here feels more like a life event than a mere hotel stay. Honestly there's nowhere on earth quite like the Park Hyatt Tokyo...

REVIEW – JAL : Business Class – B789 (Sky Suite III) – Jakarta (CGK) to Tokyo (NRT)

Last time we flew the phenomenal Apex Suites on JAL's 777, at the time the seat was the best I'd ever seen in Business Class (now surpassed by Qatar Q Suites and ANA's The Room) but the catering was awful. More specifically there was almost no dinner and no snacking menu on a 7h30m flight! This time I deliberately filled up in the lounge before boarding the 900 Series Dreamliner to Tokyo...

garuda lounge cgk

REVIEW – Garuda Indonesia : Business Class Lounge – Jakarta (CGK-T3)

This is one of the better Business Class lounges that I've visited. Great decor, a huge variety of local food, almost unlimited seating and even some unexpected extras like the movie theatre and reflexology area. The low quality of the drinks is the only real negative. This isn't a facility that wows like the Pier Business Class lounges in London and Hong Kong but it is certainly in the upper echelon of Business Class lounges globally. You could easily pass 3-4 hours here without being bored, which given Jakarta traffic is a real bonus, since only an unhinged maniac would cut it fine when departing from this airport...

REVIEW – Plataran Komodo: Duplex Pool Villa

Plataran Komodo is a rare type of resort in this day and age. The locally owned Plataran hotel group prides itself on providing authentic experiences throughout Indonesia and has yet to succumb to the temptation of building larger resorts in tall towers...

Concordia lounge Bali -main room

REVIEW – Concordia Lounge : Bali (DPS – Domestic)

I had previously enjoyed a visit to the Garuda Indonesia lounge in this domestic terminal but I had a pretty terrible experience in a third party lounge in the international terminal. So overall my expectations going into this visit were relatively low...

SQ A330 J 26 - REVIEW - Singapore Airlines : Business Class - A330 - Singapore (SIN) to Bali (DPS)

REVIEW – Singapore Airlines : Business Class – A330 – Singapore (SIN) to Bali (DPS)

The A330 is gradually being replaced by the 787 on Singapore's network of short and medium haul flights but a great number of aircraft are still equipped with this older product. Despite this not being the most modern product my initial impression was that the seats looked a lot better than their equivalents on EVA Air , Thai or Cathay Pacific (incidentally all airlines that I've flown short/ medium-haul to Bali before!)

FS Singapore exec suite 49 - REVIEW - Four Seasons Singapore: Executive Suite

REVIEW – Four Seasons Singapore: Executive Suite

Upon seeing how low the room rates were at the newly refurbished Four Seasons, the choice seemed obvious. $300 USD a night for a Four Seasons hotel is already amazing but since I booked via Classic Travel I also got free breakfast and a $100 USD hotel credit thrown in for free...

qantas business class 737

REVIEW – Qantas: Business Class – Sydney to Melbourne (B767)

Overall, the experience with Qantas was mixed. The crew are very helpful and friendly. They have their wits about them and behave like competent, experienced adults. With some other airlines you get younger crews who may look better but you get the feeling that their ability to improvise, go the extra mile or even engage in decent conversation is somewhat limited.

park hyatt melbourne entrance

REVIEW – Park Hyatt, Melbourne (Park Suite)

The Park Hyatt Melbourne has all the makings of a great hotel but the finishes need to be spotless in a Park Hyatt. Any mechanisms need to function without problems. Cables need to be tidied inside consoles or at least pinned or bundled in some way. Empty plates, towels and bottles need to be cleared in a timely fashion. Most of all, the staff need to be helpful and courteous.

MEL J domestic lounge QF 17 - REVIEW - Qantas Business Lounge - Melbourne (Domestic T1)

REVIEW – Qantas Business Lounge – Melbourne (Domestic T1)

With barista made coffee, plenty of sunlight, beautiful views and varied healthy eating options this lounge really ticks a lot of boxes. It isn't in the same league as the top tier of international business lounges like the Star Alliance Lounge in LA  but for a domestic terminal it is pretty hard to beat.
