This is a hotel that is moments away from the airport. It ticks all of the items in my basics checklist and also has a full size gym and excellent restaurant.
The room decor is a cut above most airport hotels globally, as is the service.
Unless you have a layover of over 20 hours I can't imagine why you'd consider anywhere else in Joburg.
It's safe to say that this stay absolutely blew away all of my expectations. Amilla is a resort that delivered not just on the things that I thought I wanted it fulfilled knew needs that I didn't even know I had.
The food was comfortably amongst the best we've ever encountered in the Maldives. The bed was also the biggest and the snorkelling the best I've ever encountered.
The variety of accommodation options is fantastic and the combination of beach, treetop, bubble and overwater could keep you entertained for weeks.
PCR Testing is an inevitability of the current travel environment and if you're UK based it certainly seems that this will be a requirement for some time to come.
With PCR tests ranging in price from £100 to £200 or even more, I've been curious to try various options at the lower end of the pricing spectrum to see how they compare...
Expectations can be an odd thing. Emirates First Class is an internationally renowned product, even outside of the frequent flyer community people are likely to have heard of the shower suites and the on board lounge bar (which I had no time to visit on this short flight).
This is a cabin which has a halo effect over the entire Emirates brand, meaning that people buy Economy seats on Emirates, on the basis of how good their First Class is...
This isn't the kind of place the you turn up early to experience, although outstation lounges very rarely are. The food is the only truly premium aspect of Emirates' Gatwick lounge offering.
What's strange is how easily some glaring errors could be fixed to radically transform the experience...
There are a lot of things to like about Constance Moofushi. The reef and lagoon are truly spectacular. If you're into diving, the Ari Atoll also has some of the very best dive sites on earth. The vegetation is lush and dense and the sand quality is fantastic too. This is not a resort which is lacking in natural charm.
When I saw an airfare from Tunisia to Vietnam flying a combination of Air France and China Southern (both for the first time!), with the possibility of an extended stopover in Paris for £650 per person, round trip - I booked instantly. No questions asked.
I was extremely pleasantly surprised by the China Southern International Sky Pearl VIP lounge. My expectation was one of brusque or standoffish service, subpar food, no amenities and a lack of viable seating options.Instead I got to eat amazingly fresh and delicious Chinese food, participated in a tea ceremony and was able to charge my devices whilst sitting very comfortably in one of ten or more viable seating areas. The staff cleared plates and wiped tables at a prodigious rate and did so with a smile...
This was a superb flight and the defining feature for me was the service. This was better than I could ever have hoped for in short haul business.
The PA that talked us through the flight details, the prioritisation of business class passengers, the slipper service, instant clearing of wrappers and empty trays, proactive drinks top ups and the genuine warmth when the FA noticed Kamara's reading light wasn't turned on - all hallmarks of great service.
