I was planning on flying home from Asia, re-entering the UK after the clocks had switched back to winter time and then planned to fly back two time zones towards Asia, to a city which gets dark at 4pm in the winter months...

There are two business class lounges but only one can be accessed by passengers that hold a Business Class ticket but no frequent flyer status.
The better of the two lounges, the Premium lounge, is only available to pax connecting on a First Class ticket or OneWorld Emerald status holders.

Given a choice of using the BA First Class lounges in Terminals 5 or 3, or using this Cathay Pacific Business class facility, there is no contest. BA have been well and truly humiliated in their home base.

These weren't fares that were 25% or even 50% off. These were fares that looked like they were missing a final zero. Given the amount of miles earned when flying them, you were even looking at making half the paid fare price back, with your haul of AA miles or BA Avios.
